Samuel Robert was born August 9, 2010... 8/9/10 kind of unique birthday. He weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces and 20 1/4 inches long. His apgar scores were 8 and 9. He has dark hair but not sure it will stay that way. 10 fingers, 10 toes He is perfect except for one thing...he is not breathing well without some help :( He had some fluid in his lungs after he was born and he is breathing rapidly and with a lot of labor. He is on an oxygen machine(C-pap)but so far we have been unable to ween him from this extra help. He can not eat until the breathing gets under control so right now (32 hours after birth.) He seems to really enjoy the binky especially when they dip it in sugar water first(this is done for pricks/ IV's and such.
I am being discharged tomorrow(aug 13) but baby Sam needs to stay until he can control his breathing and feed safely. Of course I am super sad but pray that he gets the strength he needs quickly and begins to breath better. He has made a lot of progress since birth but not fast enough for mommy. He is so sweet, loves his binky and loves to be talked to. I can't wait to bring him home and love him to pieces.
After a week in the NICU during which he had a partially collapsed lung Sam is well enough to go home. He received wonderful care from the NICU team at St. John's. (discharged august 16, 2010)
